this is a lancair kitplane, i think…. 
I went for a ride in this DC3, sat in the jump seat just behind the two pilots…. 
AVweb editor Russ and Kate from Cirrus PR, Kate flew too… 
There was a flight of six Yaks, little two-seat military-type airplanes, flying in formation with us, but you cant see them in these pix… i shot some video too but it’s in the avweb camera…. they were very close to our airplane! behind the wing. 
the guy in the right is the instructor, the guy in the left won an avweb contest to get to fly the airplane, we did a low pass across the show airport and flew for about 40 minutes. 
only three of us could ride in the airplane besides the pilot, since there are no regular seats…. once we took off, we could wander around and look out the windows but it was a little bumpy. There is also a short video posted online from the same flight the day before… 
This is how the airshow begins every day… 
this balloon flew by early one morning as I walked in to the press center…

this weird thing can take off horizontally and land vertically on its tail… or something like that… it’s very strange!
